Eiffel French

An excellent Groupon deal and a curiosity about snails and French dining combined for an enchanting experience!

We opted for snails to start with, which were cooked in a rich garlic butter sauce and served with fresh bread. I enjoyed the texture quite a bit after my initial hesitation with the thought of eating snail ‘from the garden’, but they were deliciously tender and so flavourful, and it was great eating them with the bread slices to balance out the strong flavours.

I chose the red wine jus and steak for my main, which had a lovely mash and salad alongside it. The cut of meat was quite fatty, and 1/4 of it was not edible, but the rest of the meat was well cooked and seasoned. I also tried some of the duck, which was quite dry for my liking, and missing a sauce, but still well cooked.

I finished off with creme brulee for dessert which was sweet and creamy, and had the perfect ‘crack’ of sugar on top, but needed a tiny bit longer to set! I and also tried a bite of the blueberry crepes which were delicious, and served with fresh fruit and ice cream!

The restaurant is quite small and cosy, and only seats about 4 tables inside, which is the best option on a chilly night. As we came at 6, service of the entree was quite efficient. Since we had never eaten snails before, our waitress was so helpful in showing us how it was done, and we successfully navigated the tongs and skewer combination to enjoy the snails. We were able to have all three courses in just under an hour, which was excellent!

Keep in mind that the restaurant is located inside the Italian Forum, as it was hard for us to locate when we went. Parking is available at Norton Street Plaza as well.

I enjoyed my first French dining experience so much, and the snails were the definite highlight. The Groupon deal made the meal very value for money, so I’d highly recommend trying Eiffel French for an authentic French dining experience at an affordable price!
