The smell of amazing Mexican food enticed us to enter El Topo, a restaurant and rooftop bar in the middle of Westfield Bondi Junction.
We decided to share 2 dishes – the taco special, which allowed us to pick 3 for $10, and the whole grilled spatchcock with black beans and corn. The tacos were delicious, with our favourite being the pork, although the lamb and gemfish were tasty as well. The filling wasn’t overpowering, and the spices and flavours blended very nicely. The spatchcock was covered in a lot of sauce, and was a huge portion size, so be sure that you try this on an empty stomach! The flavour was so delicious though, and the meat perfectly tender, so this was a great dish.
The decor is incredible, with vibrant colours and paintings adorning the walls. There was ample seating, divided into booths which were nice and cosy. Service was fairly fast and the waiters were funny and engaging, and helped with menu picks, which was good!
El Topo is a great option after a day of shopping to try some authentic Mexican fare. The menu is diverse, the atmosphere vibrant and the food is incredibly flavoursome. While I was reluctant on this visit, one menu item I’d potentially come back again to try is the roast crickets, which sounded terrifying but worth a try for the experience!
