A Groupon voucher for high tea led to an afternoon of delights, with three delicious tiers of food and a lovely view to match!
We were given a three tier high tea platter, which was beautifully presented. The first tier had watermelon panacotta, which wasn’t a hit due to the strong taste, the stone fruit maracons which were delicious, and the dark chocolate profiteroles which also were less liked, all from the sweet selection. The peach and pistachio tart capped it off, and that was a favourite of mine, as the fruit was perfectly poached and not too sweet, and the pasty was light and crumbly! There were also two chocolate covered strawberries which were refreshing, and cut through the sweetness of that layer.
The second tier contained the scones, which were quinoa flavoured, and there was ample jam and cream provided. The flavour was unobtrusive and we enjoyed having a healthier alternative to regular white flour scones. The final tier contained the rest of the savory menu, including various sandwiches, of which the beef and semi dried tomato one was our favourite, and the roasted chicken was well liked as well.
In terms of drinks, to start with, we had a berry cocktail each which was delicious and refreshing, but quite strong. There was also unlimited T2 tea, which we each tried a pot of, and that was a fantastic accompaniment as well.
The restaurant was empty as we went toward the very start of the session, and we were provided with a window seat, and excellent service. The restaurant itself is just a sectioned off potion of the lobby, and very open, with a nice casual feel but formal table settings, which was an interesting contrast. The high tea tower was very well presented, and there was plenty of food, leaving us extremely full, but takeaway was not permitted, although we were able to get second helpings of some of our favourite treats, especially the macarons.
With the Groupon voucher, we were able to experience high tea at its finest for a fraction of the original cost, and it was truly a memorable experience! For fine finger food with a view, Crossroads Bar High Tea at Swisshotel is not to be missed.
