The lanes of Melbourne boast a colourful variety of cultural eats, and Mr Nice Guy is no exception. We entered the restaurant ravenous and ready for some terrific Thai food!
We ordered for the table and shared 4 dishes. We had the Massaman Curry, Stir Fry with Vegetables, Chicken and Papaya Salad and Pad Se Ew with Chicken. The curry was the real highlight, as the spicy curry was perfectly complemented by the tender beef and soft potato pieces. We enjoyed it with some sticky rice, which was soft and fluffy, and roti bread, which was served with a deliciously thick peanut sauce. We also really enjoyed the chicken in the salad, as it was very nicely grilled.
The pad se ew was also really tasty, with just the right amount of sweetness and very well cooked vegetables. The stir fry had plenty of baby corn, which I enjoyed. The meal as a whole was wonderful, as we were able to try a bit of each of their menu items in four different categories, and the variety was excellent. While the portion sizes were quite small, the quality of the dishes and the value for money more than made up for this.
The restaurant is quite small and cosy, with vibrant tiles on the tables, and authentic Thai decor. It was a little bit difficult to find, as it was tucked away in a lane. We took some time to order, but the food came out quickly and together, which was great. The staff were attentive, and as we didn’t order enough rice, they quickly put together another pot for us, which was much appreciated.
For authentic and well priced Thai food, we would highly recommend Mr Nice Guy! Bring a group of friends so you can sample a bit of everything, and be sure to have some sticky rice on the side!
