After a rather delayed flight, we eventually arrived in Melbourne, thoroughly excited to live the foodie’s dream! For our first dinner, as the rest of our company was craving an overload of meat, we decided to try City Grill Room.
Whilst we were contemplating the menu, some freshly baked bread was brought out which was quite delicious and a lovely way to start the evening.
We eventually decided on ordering for the table some baby back pork ribs, a scotch fillet, grilled camembert on toasted ciabatta and chips. This ended up being the perfect quantity and the meal as a whole was quite impressive – everything was very flavoursome and struck an appropriate balance in terms of richness.
Both the pork ribs and the scotch fillet were cooked consistently and very nicely. The ribs in particularly were very tender whilst the mushroom sauce on the steak served as a lovely addition to the both the steak and the chips. Both of these come with our recommendation!
The grilled camembert however was what we were really excited for as, being cheese-lovers, we knew we had to try it. Overall, we can say that this did not disappoint. The camembert had a consistent texture that wasn’t too runny and perfectly complemented the provided ciabatta, as well as contrasting nicely with the rest of the meat on the table.
Both the restaurant and the wait staff were very nice and welcoming, and there is room for larger groups as well. We found it rather easy to share the food which was a plus. The only potentially negative thing to note is that it did take a little while for our ordered food to arrive, which was difficult as we were starving by this point!
If you are craving for meat of all varieties, the name ‘City Grill Room’ literally speaks for itself. We felt it was a solid experience all round, and most importantly, the food was quite delicious.
