Braving the rainy weather, to catch up with an old friend, we decided to head to Newtown for some delicious pies!
I chose a classic option – the pulled beef and mushroom pie, which was absolutely delicious! The beef was very tender and flavoursome, and the pastry flaky, golden and so more-ish. Contrary to what The Pie Tin staff suggest, I didn’t eat it with my hands, but it was quite difficult to manage with a plastic fork, which is the only utensil they have. I didn’t order any sides but was still quite full and satisfied, as the pies are very hearty.
My friend opted for the pulled pork and caramelised apple, which she really enjoyed as well, as she loves pulled pork, and has never tried this combination before. She also got a side of chips which were tasty, but left her a bit too full for a whole dessert pie! We decided to share the caramel and white chocolate ganache dessert pie, which was so scrumptious, and had a lovely crumbly biscuit base with a thick topping! The gooey caramel just melts in your mouth, but it was very rich, and we were so glad we shared it.
Orders are taken at the counter, and you can see all of the pie options on display before making your choice – it’s definitely so hard to pick! We went on a weekday for lunch, so it wasn’t too busy and we easily got a booth seat. The pies come piping hot, and don’t take too long, but be prepared to go up to the counter to collect them.
For any lovers of gourmet pies, this is definitely a haven for you! I’d definitely recommend opting for one savoury and one sweet pie, and the pulled meat pies are a must!
