Makoto

We were craving a light and clean lunch and some Japanese cuisine, so we settled for some sushi at Makoto in Chatswood!

Food:
My picks from the sushi train were the salmon and avocado with sesame seed topping, which was delicious and fresh, and the brown rice version, which had capsicum and cucumber as well and was very flavoursome! I also tried the salmon sashimi on rice, and the salmon was thinly sliced and perfectly complemented by their salty soy sauce. Finally, I was slightly adventurous and sampled the grilled scallop sushi, which was lightly torched and had a lovely smoky flavour.

We also sampled the tuna and avocado sushi, the grilled salmon and grilled wagyu beef varieties. The tuna was solid, and tasty as usual, but the grilled salmon surprised us, as normally I prefer the uncooked variety but the tangy taste of the onions and shallots won us over. Finally, the wagyu beef was a winner, as the thin pieces of beef sat atop bundles of rice, forming perfect mouthfuls!

Ambience:
Just a short walk from the station, Makoto is set up sushi train style, and have an excellent lunch special where every plate, except for the special gold ones, is $3. It gets quite busy at lunchtime, but we were quickly seated and had our pick of the plates. We had to request a few dishes that weren’t on the train, and had a few delays in getting those. There was also quite a lengthy line to pay, so it would be great for that to be more efficient.

Overall:
For a great sushi train that offers excellent value for money and is conveniently located near Chatswood station, Makoto should not be missed! Don’t forget to look at the menu and order dishes not on the train as well!
