The Observer Hotel

Having heard that one of the top 5 burgers in Sydney could be found down at The Observer Hotel in The Rocks, we were absolutely excited for the opportunity to try them for ourselves!

Food:
We tried three dishes – the Coconut Crumbed Prawns, the Cheese Burger and the Greek Burger. The prawns were an absolute winner for me – the slight sweetness and tanginess of the coconut was the dominant flavour, and the crisp and crunchy batter was lightly coated around the fresh prawn, providing the perfect balance when dipped into the spiced tartare sauce. They were really easy to eat and a great food for sharing, especially with the side of crunchy chips as well!

There was an expansive variety of burger options on the menu, so it was very difficult to settle on just two! Both the Cheese Burger and the Greek Burger were cooked to perfection, and came with a generous portion of both chips and a salad on the side. The Cheese Burger was delicious, as the patty was nice and juicy, and the cheese wasn’t overwhelming. The buns used are soft and fluffy, and nice and mild to balance out the depth of the burger.

The Greek Burger was really unique, and the lamb was very well done, which suited the burger excellently! We enjoyed the taste of feta and use of rocket leaves to retain a touch of authentic Mediterranean cuisine, and we had to order it with a side of Greek Salad, which was very fresh and tasty. Out of the two, we thought that the Greek Burger was truly deserving of a spot on the list of elite burgers in Sydney!

Ambience:
The bistro that serves the meals at The Observer is located towards the back of the venue, so head down there to place your food order, and take a number for it to be brought out to your table so that you can grab drinks as well! On a Saturday night, the place was buzzing, and the live music created a great atmosphere for some drinks and a meal.

There are plenty of benches to sit at, and ample seating around the bar as well, which boasts a great selection of Australian beers. On a less rainy day, there’s also a lovely outdoor courtyard to enjoy your burgers and steaks in! The staff at the bistro were so friendly and helpful, and happy to offer up their favourite burger recommendations, which we loved!

Overall:
For a casual drink with friends or a shared meal, The Observer Hotel is a must-visit, and you can’t go past the coconut-crumbed prawns and one of their famed burgers – try the Greek! We’ll definitely be back to sample some of their other menu items, as the steak and salmon sounded divine as well.
