We had to celebrate the end of our exams in true foodie style, so we were thrilled to have the opportunity to try some of the beautiful dishes at the newly opened Burnt Orange in Chatswood Chase!
We started off with two drinks – a freshly squeezed watermelon juice, and the Summer Goodness, which had mango, passionfruit, orange, yoghurt and honey. The portions were a perfect size for having alongside a meal, and they came out to us quite quickly, which was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the Summer Goodness, as the tartness of the passionfruit shone through and there were real mango pieces in it, adding to the sweetness! The watermelon juice was also light and refreshing, and we absolutely loved it.
Our first meal was the Lunch Board, a new menu item containing a soft boiled egg, a jam and a spicy dip, picked vegetables, avocado and cheese with house smoked trout (there is an option to switch this to Jamon Serrano. This was beautifully presented and artfully arranged on a wooden board, and after taking the usual Instagram photos, we got straight into devouring!
All of the components were well balanced and very fresh, and the perfect mouthful was a bit of the smoked trout with avocado and a tiny dab of jam – all I can say is wow! I also enjoyed spreading the avocado and cheese on the toast, and the runny soft boiled egg was a great addition as well. The only thing I would change is the pickled vegetables, but apart from that, it was a killer dish!
We also had the Green Goddess Chicken Salad, which had avocado, bacon, roasted corn, cherry tomato and Persian feta! The chicken was perfectly grilled and the slightly melted feta made a delicious sauce for the salad. We really enjoyed the healthiness and freshness of both meals, and the menu has a lot of beautifully presented and tasty, yet super healthy dishes, which was really great to see!
The cafe is a bit tricky to find, so look out for the leafy arches that line the outside of the canopy which borders the cafe. We really enjoyed the openness of the dining space, and the beautifully decorated tables, with colourful flowers adorning each place setting. It was absolutely packed for Saturday lunch, but service was still really fast, so get in early to grab a table! The staff were really lovely and welcoming, and there are sweet treats and desserts at the counter which aren’t on the menu, so keep an eye out for those as well!
For beautifully presented and healthy dishes in a lovely setting, Burnt Orange is the place to go, and my pick would be the Lunch Board, it’s an absolute winner of a dish and so unique! I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience dining in, and noticed they have a high tea as well, so I’ll definitely be back to try that!
