For a quick breakfast in an otherwise busy morning, I dropped by Hazelhurst Café, located within the Regional Gallery and Arts Centre on the Kingsway. I remember being very impressed by this café when I came for a family event some ten years ago, so I was very curious to see how I would find it today.
For food, I ordered the Breakfast Bruschetta, which consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, herbed mushrooms and roma tomato on toast. My first bite was into the bacon, and what a first bite it was. I can fairly say that this bacon was the best bacon I have ever had, and it was cooked to perfection. The rest of the meal was also quite impressive, and the egg in particular was well done. There was more than enough in terms of quantity, and I finished feeling very satisfied.
To complement the Bruschetta, I also ordered the Daily Special juice, which was a grapefruit, blood orange and passionfruit juice. It definitely had a very strong taste with a nice ‘punch’ to it, but was overall incredibly refreshing. The juice worked very well with the meal, and contrasted nicely with the eggs and bacon.
The Hazelhurst Café is a lovely place, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. The outside is very green and leafy, and there is enough place for kids to play and for the adults to relax. Drawing on the inspiration of the art gallery present, Hazelhurst Café has taken care of every small detail, and the inner décor is consistent and nice, even down to the cute table numbers made of wooden blocks!
The café was vibrant and almost full on a Sunday morning which is a strong testament to its quality, and the service was incredibly friendly and helpful.
The Hazelhurst Café definitely exceed the memories I had of it and I will definitely be back before another ten years pass! If you are ever in the Sutherland area, make sure to drop by and leave some time to check out the gallery as well.
