Capriccio Osteria & Bar

On a sunny day, we took a leisurely stroll from Petersham Station to Capriccio Osteria & Bar, excited to try this great addition to the Leichhardt dining scene!

Food:
We were lucky enough to try some of the small plates, which are great for sharing and sampling a large variety of dishes on the menu. We started off with the Cannolo Alla Mortadella, which was coated with a balsamic savory cannolo shell, and filled with a creamy and flavoursome mortadella pate and a hint of pistachio that shone through – a really surprising but well constructed dish.

We then sampled the Piadina Romagnola, which was a flatbread round heaped with stracchino, rocket and prosciutto. The prosciutto was beautiful, and had just the right amount of saltiness to balance out the fresher components of the bread.

However, the Cotechino sliders were the pick of the day, which resembled mini burger sliders, and had a lentil bun covering a pork sausage, pickle and mayo. I absolutely loved the bun, and thought it was so unique and flavoursome! The pork was perfectly seasoned and so tender, and the mayo and pickle added some texture and freshness to the slider – a perfect entree or sharing item!

We then moved on to the house made focaccia with porchetta, a lovely roast pork belly that absolutely melted in my mouth! The bread was very firm and well grilled, which made the focaccia easy to eat, and the meat and the salad worked really well together.

Finally, we had the mushroom with truffled mozzarella, a dish that absolutely bursts with flavour in every mouthful, and had a great balance of the earthiness of the mushroom and the sharp taste of the cheese, with a few dashes of greenery to cut through the richness!

Ambience:
The restaurant is easily accessible by public transport, and there is plenty of seating inside, but we chose to soak up the rays and picked a table in the sun! When you walk through the door, the earthy smell of the woodfire oven greets you, and the restaurant had a lovely and relaxed vibe. Service was brilliant and the food was brought out so quickly!

Overall:
We thoroughly enjoyed the very personalised experience of dining at Capriccio Osteria & Bar, with their range of authentic Italian cuisine options in smaller sizes. This is a venue that’s perfect for sharing and sampling, and we truly had a small taste of Italy in a single lunch!
