After a long drive up to Palm Beach and a relaxing swim, we had to try The Boathouse and sample their beautiful food for ourselves.
I couldn’t resist grabbing a coconut to drink, and especially since it was such a hot day, the coconut was a light and fresh option, as made even better as The Boathouse uses young coconuts. We also got a watermelon juice, which had a sprig of mint and was so delicious! Both drinks were very large, and so generously portioned, so we had plenty left over by the time our food arrived.
As I walked in, I saw about 10 beer battered flathead baskets on the service counter, and they looked so delectable that I had to order one for myself. The fish was perfectly coated with the beer batter and fried to a golden brown, but remained moist and tender, and tasted so delicious dipped into the Boathouse tartare sauce, finished off with a sprinkle of lemon juice on top.
I also loved the chips, which were soft and fluffy, yet crispy on the outside! The presentation was absolutely stunning, as it came in a cute steamer basket, but it’s easier to eat on a plate, so take the steamer basket off and use the plate underneath.
I also tried some of the burger, which was a beef burger with cheddar, grilled onion, pineapple, lettuce and beetroot, and served with a side of chips, relish and pickle. This was also presented nicely, on a simple wooden board. We really loved the soft bun, and the freshness of the contents – perfect for a hot summers’ day!
We went on an extremely warm day, so it was so nice to be able to sit inside, protected from the hot weather. For a cooler day, there’s plenty of seating at the front amongst the flowers and vegetable table, and a few chairs and tables overlooking the pier at the back as well. Orders are placed at the counter, so we braved the long line and chose our options from the chalkboard menu whilst we were waiting. The menu is very simple, with little variation, but what they do, they do well!
Once ordered, your food is then delivered to your chosen table. We were very amazed with how quickly we received our food after ordering, so don’t be deterred by the queue! There are plenty of plants, flowers and even pumpkins and other harvest vegetables adorning the restaurant, which we loved, and we soaked up the relaxed and peaceful atmosphere while we ate some delicious food!
Lunch at The Boathouse is a magical experience, and we were truly immersed in the laid back lifestyle of Palm Beach. While slightly on the pricier side, the food is well worth the premium, and we’ll definitely be road-tripping back up to sample their breakfast options as well!
