For a quick snack before an afternoon of shopping, I braved the queue outside Din Tai Fung’s express store in the Westfield Sydney food court, and patiently waited for a delicious meal!
I ordered my favourite Din Tai Fung dish – the Egg Fried Rice with shrimp. The quantity is very decent, and the taste, as usual, was amazing, with the right balance of egg and shrimp. What puts me off a good fried rice is when it’s super oily, but Din Tai Fung’s variety isn’t very oily at all, which is nice. There were plenty of shallots for flavour, and large pieces of egg, and it was a very hearty and filling dish.
Given that I went during the lead up to Christmas, and on a weekend as well, the food court was packed, so we were lucky enough to find a table in the communal seated area, but quite far away from Din Tai Fung. Orders are placed on a sheet of paper available as you queue up, so make sure you have a pen with you to fill it out, as theirs are in short supply. Once you order, a buzzer signals that your food is ready, and while it was a lengthy wait to order, the food comes out pretty quickly, which is great.
Din Tai Fung in the food court is a great option for people who love their menu items, but don’t have enough time to enjoy a full meal in their main outlet. I had a great experience ordering, and their food is consistently good, so definitely give it a try! I’ll also be back for some of their beautiful Christmas flavoured dumplings as well!
