Grill @ Gordon’s website promises ‘steak, seafood and ribs all grilled to perfection’. This matched perfectly with our strong craving for meat one evening before the theatre, so we journeyed to the lovely upper north shore to try it out.
The menu at Grill @ Gordon is exactly what you would expect from a steakhouse, containing a sizeable range of meat options canvassing steaks, ribs, chicken, seafood and more. The first thing to note is that the serving sizes are quite substantial, which is always a great positive, and we left the meal feeling very satisfied!
For the entrée, we tried the garlic bread as well as the salt and pepper calamari. The garlic bread was quite delicious and served as a lovely introduction to the rest of the evening. The bread itself was lightly toasted and remained soft, whilst the garlic had just the right amount of flavour in it. If the garlic bread was good however, the salt and pepper calamari, a restaurant favourite, was amazing! They had a perfectly soft crunch, and the pepper seasoning added an extra layer of flavour which was complemented beautifully by the garlic aioli it was served with.
For the main, I ordered the sirloin steak cooked medium-rare, whilst the rest of the table ordered a rack of pork ribs and a rack of beef ribs. I found the steak incredibly delicious – it was perfectly cooked and remained slightly juicy inside. The mushroom sauce it was served with complemented the flavour of the meat wonderfully, and was also well suited to the chips as well. Both the pork and beef ribs were also very well cooked and were quite tender and delicious!
Despite feeling incredibly full after our entrée and main, the alluring temptation of dessert forced us to activate the dessert stomach and order the baked raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake, served with berry coulis and vanilla bean ice cream. Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed every bite from start to finish and would rank it in my top three cheesecakes of all time. The vanilla bean ice cream added a lovely smooth touch to the rest of the thicker cheesecake, and the overall flavour was a magical one.
The interior at Grill @ Gordon is small and homely, and effort has been taken to create an overall welcoming ambience. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful with everything, ranging from recommending food to bringing extra sauces. Grill @ Gordon also offers takeaway if eat-in is not an available option.
We came expecting a simple, yet delicious, range of grilled meats. Our experience more than met those expectations. Grill @ Gordon is only a three minute walk from the station so if you are ever in the area, make sure to drop by!
