For a catchup and lunch, I braved the #SydneyStorms and travelled up to Chatswood to try Shanghai Dumpling!
We ordered three options – 5 of the prawn, egg and pork dumplings, 5 of the prawn and chive dumplings, and the stir noodles with shredded chicken and chilli. We absolutely loved the dumplings – we ordered them dry, and they were gently steamed, with light and thin pastry and juicy fillings. The presentation was also very innovative, with a flat plate for the dumplings and a compartment for the soy sauce, to make dipping very convenient for the eater!
On the day we visited, we weren’t able to try the Five Spicy Beef, so we had the stir noodles with shredded chicken instead. It had a great spicy kick to it, and the serving size is very generous, so it’s a great dish for sharing. There were plenty of noodles to complement the chicken, and it was an excellent balance to the dumplings.
Shanghai Dumpling is a short walk from Chatswood station, and is located on the right side of the main row of shops. The restaurant is cosy and gets quite busy during lunchtime, so be sure to arrive early to grab a spot. They also have takeaway options for their dishes, so you can snack on their dumplings on-the-go as well!
As the name suggests, the dumplings are a must order at Shanghai Dumpling, and we found them to be perfectly steamed and so flavourful! Next time, we’d definitely try their Five Spicy Beef option to give an added kick of flavour to the noodles, but you can’t go wrong with their dumplings.
