For a quick work lunch, we walked up the street to Rokujuni for some sushi and general Japanese. Rokujuni had been recommended to us by a number of our colleagues so we were quite excited to see what it would be like!
Given the number of options provided by the menu, we were initially unsure about what to order. In the end, we settled on the chicken teriyaki buns, the salmon and avocado salad, and the sushi main meal. The chicken teriyaki buns came first – this was a delicious fusion of a ‘burger-style’ concept with pure white buns and chicken teriyaki as the ‘patty’. This was served hot and the flavours were very full and honestly quite amazing. We would order this again!
After this, the salmon and avocado salad, and the sushi main meal arrived. The salmon and avocado salad achieved its purpose – it was fresh, tasty and healthy. We quite enjoyed it however our only improvements would be to have more dressing on the actual salad component. Luckily, the sushi main meal was more delicious. It consisted of six mini salmon and avocado rolls, as well as eight pieces of nigiri of varying flavours; salmon, prawn, tuna, scallop and kingfish. We were quite impressed with this! All the seafood was quite fresh and the variety of flavours meant that we didn’t get bored of any individual taste.
The interior of Rokujuni has a nice Japanese décor and the service was friendly and fast. There is also the opportunity for to pick up sushi quickly for takeaway, which we saw many, many people take advantage of. The takeaway sushi looked quite fresh and delicious, so we will be back to try that on a busier day.
Rokujuni is a solid option for a lunch or dinner if you are in the North Sydney area. We probably wouldn’t travel out of our way again to come back, but if we were around, it is definitely a healthy and delicious option for a meal!
