For a quick work dinner, we stopped off at Jim’s Malaysian in Hawker Lane, a new food court in Westfield Chatswood that showcases the best that Asian food has to offer.
The menu is very expansive, with some great authentic dishes on offer. After seeing the other reviews, I picked the Char Kuey Teoh, which is a flat rice noodle cooked in a wok with fish cakes, prawns, egg and Chinese sausage. A good char kuey teoh needs a strong and delicious ‘burnt wok’ flavour, and this version of the dish definitely delivered!
It had a great spice and flavour to it, and the noodles were well grilled. Thet portion was also very generous, which is perfect if you’re looking for a big dinner. There were plenty of seafood items in the dish, and the only thing I would change for next time is taking out the Chinese sausage, which I personally don’t like.
In the evening, the food court had plenty of seating available, and we loved the concept, with the many food stalls offering a unique taste of Asian cuisine that you can mix and match to build a multicultural feast. The meal was quickly prepared, and service was very efficient, which was a great plus point as well. At $12.80, it’s a bit on the pricier side, but arguably very value for money given the amazing taste and portion size.
I really enjoyed my quick dinner at Jim’s Malaysian, and would love to go back to sample some of the other menu items, including desserts like Ice Kachang, which I was so happy to see on the menu! The new Hawker Lane food court definitely lives up to the hype, and is worth a try if you’re ever in the Chatswood area.
