To celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year period, Din Tai Fung have created a cute Monkey Dumpling, so after seeing some pics of them on Instagram, we had to check them out for ourselves!
We started off with two savoury dishes. I had the Shrimp and Prawn Wonton Noodle Soup, which was a great portion, with lots of tender noodles and flavourful dumplings that tasted amazing dipped into the soy sauce. It was a bit of a messy dish to eat, but well enjoyed! Mum had the Spicy Vegetable and Pork Wonton with Dry Noodle, and she added a portion of spinach to the dish to add some freshness and greenery. She really enjoyed her meal as well, and found it had a good amount of spiciness for her liking, so this dish is great for chilli lovers.
Of course, no meal is truly complete without a delicious dessert, and the limited edition Monkey Dumplings were the reason for our visit, so we ordered two. They were filled with a banana and chocolate paste, and steamed, and the texture was really similar to eating a sweet, dessert filled bread bun. I personally really enjoyed it as they were such a unique treat, and so cute to look at! As I’m not a huge fan of chocolatey desserts, the balance of flavours was perfect for me, and it wasn’t overly sweet either, which made it so enjoyable to eat.
We came during what we thought would be a busy lunchtime, but we were quickly seated, and the food came out very fast, which was great. Service was a little slow, but the taste of the food more than made up for it. The interior decor is very beautiful, with colourful slogans adorning the walls and the kitchen being visible through glass panes. What I especially like about eating at Din Tai Fung is firstly the consistency, as you get the same quality food at every outlet, and also the small racks they give you for your bags, which keeps them out of your way, and are so convenient!
The only thing that should be noted is that their meals are on the pricier side, so it’s definitely a great place for sharing a few dishes between friends (although there are great noodle and rice dishes for one as well!)
