For a work lunch, we headed to the take-away style Din Tai Fung outlet in North Sydney, eager to have some delicious and fast dumplings!
We ordered two lots of the famous Xiao Long Bao ($5.80 for 4) between us, and also shared an Egg and Shrimp Fried Rice ($13.80). We were slightly disappointed by the portion sizes, as the rice seemed smaller than usual, as did the Xiao Long Bao. While both dishes were tasty, we were expecting a lot more from Din Tai Fung, particularly in terms of consistency in their serving sizes, and value for money, as they do charge premium prices for their dishes.
To drink, we had one of their Soya Bean Milk drinks, which was very filling and smooth, and one of the Lychee and Mint freeze iced drink, which was tart and sharp, and great for lovers of refreshing drinks.
The restaurant gets super packed at lunch, so we opted to order a take-away so we could eat in the general food court, or outside on the rooftop. We were gived a buzzer, and the food was prepared quickly, but unfortunately, our food was sitting and waiting and the buzzer didn’t go off, so we could’ve had our food a lot faster than we did. Nevertheless, it’s fairly quick to order and the system of ticking your own food is very efficient.
Unfortunately, our Din Tai Fung experience left a lot to be desired, and we were very underwhelmed with their service and potions. We probably won’t be revisiting their North Sydney outlet, but have had great experiences at the dine in restaurants in the CBD, so head over there for your Din Tai Fung fix instead!
