After a morning of shopping, we headed to New Shanghai’s Melbourne Emporium outlet to sample their famous dumplings and try some Chinese culinary delights!
We started off with some Pan Fried Pork Buns, which are New Shanghai’s unique speciality! We really enjoyed the crisp exterior, which was lightly fried and golden brown, and the soupy dumpling interior, which was a great texture contrast. We then has some of their Prawn Wontons, which are served with peanut butter! While this was a strange flavour combination at first, it really grew on us, and the dumplings themselves were so delicious.
Finally, as our main meal, we had the Peking Pork with fluffy cloud shaped buns and chives. It was really fun to build them ourselves, and they were perfect, bite sized pieces that were well flavoured with the classic Peking sweet sauce. To accompany all of the dishes, we had a pot of jasmine tea, and it paired really nicely with our choices.
New Shanghai is tucked away in a corner of the Emporium food court, and has such a welcoming atmosphere! The staff were all so lovely and friendly, and happy to give us recommendations on some of their favourite dishes and the specialities. All of the plates and crockery were beautifully decorated with Chinese art, which made for some great photos! The food was delivered really quickly, and portion sizes are really generous, which makes this a great cuisine for sharing with family or friends.
We had a really amazing experience at New Shanghai, and the food was equally as stunning as the generous hospitality of our hosts. For a truly welcoming experience at an eatery that makes you feel right at home, look no further than New Shanghai, and give the famous Pan Fried Pork Buns a try!
Note: Khana dined as a guest of New Shanghai and iD Collective. Thanks so much to Bonnie for organising the visit!
