For a nice work lunch, we stumbled upon the Firehouse Hotel in North Sydney, a bar and pub with a great range of eats and drinks to match.
We ordered two items – the pie of the day, and a burger. The pie of the day was a beef Guiness pie, served with mushy peas and creamy mash. It was so delicious and a good hearty feed, with lovely pieces of beef rather than mince, and it was a great portion size as well. The burger was also quite solid – the meat was well cooked yet still slightly juicy and tender which complemented the soft bun very well, . The chips were amazing, as they were nicely fried and crispy, with a soft interior as well.
Firehouse Hotel is packed at lunchtime, so be sure to get there early to grab a seat. There’s plenty of bar seating, and some tables for big groups, as well as an upstairs area. While the pie came really quickly, the burger took some time to arrive as the order was forgotten. The staff, however, dealt with this really well, and even offered us a free drink to make up for it, which was really lovely. The menu is quite expansive with great hearty pub food, and there are daily specials as well!
While there were a few kinks with our meal as it was so busy, the excellent food and great service more than made up for it. We’ll definitely be back for some of their other great menu items, and for a more leisurely lunch or dinner.
