Last week, we went on a road-trip up to Whale Beach to try the famous Jonah’s restaurant. A number of our friends had been before and said it was incredible, so we were definitely very excited to try for ourselves. When we arrived, we saw the picturesque views which were stunning, and knew that it had the makings of something amazing.
Before we ordered, we were served with some house-made bread and two amuse bouches. Both of these were amazing – the bread was soft and combined perfectly with the butter, whilst the amuse bouches were full of flavour.
For entrées, we ordered two dishes. First was the Linguine with Easter Rock lobster. This was simply incredible and one of the highlights of the entire meal for us. There was plenty of lobster which tasted delicious, whilst the sauce it was served in was quite remarkable. This was one of the best pastas we had ever had, which is a solid recommendation! We also ordered the Pan Seared North Atlantic Scallops. Whilst this was quite tasty, we did not find it as good as the Linguine, and it tasted rather dry at points.
For the mains, we also ordered two dishes. The first was a Fricassee of Moreton Bay Bugs, which was quite a special dish. The pea and mint puree it was served with complemented the flavour of the Bugs wonderfully, and each bite was a true delight. We also ordered the Dry-Rubbed Aged Beef Rib Eye (500g). This was quite huge, and it was an effort to finish it all! Nevertheless, finish it we did as it was truly delicious – it was very well cooked and super tender.
Feeling very full by this point, we took a mini-break to appreciate the scenery before dessert. Before dessert, we were served a mini chocolate mousse which was creamy and delicious. We then ordered a Strawberry Shortcake espuma cake. This was simply incredible! The sweet mascarpone combined with the fresh strawberries and the cake to melt in the mouth, and the entire dessert was a delight from start to finish. We would definitely, definitely recommend ordering this!
Naturally, through all three courses, Jonah’s paid strong attention to detail in the presentation of the food and the plating was quite beautiful.
The service at Jonah’s was amazing. We were attended to by their head waiter who made sure that everything we needed was taken care of, and the view was also magnificent. We were lucky enough to have a window seat and it was definitely worth it so we would recommend booking far enough in advance to secure this. Indeed, two beautiful rainbow lorikeets came to visit us on the outside, and the entire restaurant oozed class and sophistication.
We would definitely recommend Jonah’s restaurant for a special occasion. The view is magnificent, the food lovely, and there are so many nearby beaches and places to explore that it is definitely worth the trip up.
