The Picnic //

For a lovely Sunday brunch with mum, we wandered down to Burwood Park to find a new neighbourhood gem – The Picnic, a garden style cafe where long queues are a thing of the past, thanks to the waitlist manager!

We started off with a coffee and chai, which were decorated with beautiful coffee art, and perfect warming drinks for the chilly morning! We then grabbed three items from their breakfast menu – the Panna Cotta Granola, the Salmon Garden and the Not So French.

The Not So French is an Instagram staple – the beautiful Persian fairy floss, crispy toast and Dulce de leche syringe creates a visual treat! After the first bite, we discovered that it tastes as incredible as it looks, and I loved the combination of the fresh watermelon and berries with the very sweet dish.

The Panna Cotta is based on weekly flavours, and this week’s was Passionfruit. It was so smooth and creamy, and went beautifully with the fig and maple granola, which added a great crunch and textural element to the dish, and the fruit finished it off perfectly with some sweetness.

Finally, the Salmon Garden had lovely fresh salmon, and a soft boiled egg cooked to perfection. They’re in the process of tinkering with this dish, so watch out for the revamped version soon!

I loved the concept of The Picnic, a whimsical, outdoor cafe that has repurposed an old shed space in the park to create a unique dining concept. The hanging picnic baskets on the roof created an amazing touch, and you’re protected from the elements by a plastic gazebo.

The staff were all so lovely and friendly, and the owner Jad is so passionate about the cafe and the relationships he has built with local and new customers alike. While the cafe is super popular, we didn’t even have to wait in a long line to grab a table.

You give Jad or one of the other staff members your details, pop across the road to Westfield Burwood and do some shopping until you receive a text that tells you your table is ready – the perks of the system!

I loved my first experience of dining at The Picnic, and loved taking pictures of their beautiful and delicious cafe cuisine! It’s a hassle free and easy dining experience without the long queues thanks to, and I enjoyed my brunch with mum so much more because of it. I’ll definitely be back to try some of their amazing lunch menu items and special desserts as well!
