On a warm but windy day, we ventured down to Cronulla, ready to be wowed by the amazing food on offer at Henry’s – a beautiful restaurant just a stone’s throw away from the beach!
We started the afternoon off with a mojito and prosecco. The mojito had plenty of mint and was light and refreshing, and really easy drinking, alongside the fruity and bubbly prosecco.
We then began the first dish – a Prawn & Scallop “fettuccine” with sauce vierge, shiso leaves and flying fish roe. It was so unique, as the seafood had been shaped into pasta, and each piece was light, soft and well seasoned. The fish roe added some saltiness and texture to the dish, and it was the perfect portion for sharing!
Next up was the San Daniele Prosciutto, with smoked buffalo mozzarella, vanilla apples and house grilled focaccia. The contrast of the sweet apples with the salted, yet mild prosciutto, and the creaminess of the cheese was the perfect combination. We especially loved the focaccia, as it was seasoned with plenty of herbs and chilli flakes, and had a great kick to it1
Our chosen main was a special – the Spiced French lamb rack with labna foam and pomegranate seeds. This was marinated to perfection, and had a flavourful coating, which was enhanced by the creamy labna. The lamb was so tender and juicy, and it was a generous portion, with two chops each.
Finally, we finished off our meal with a dessert, and had the apple crumble with rhubarb puree and house vanilla ice cream. It was a simple dish, but done perfectly, with a great balance of sweet crumble, tart rhubarb and smooth ice cream. We absolutely loved it, and polished off the whole plate!
Henry’s is located one street away from the beach, making it the perfect location for a post-swim feed! The menu selection is seasonal, and the ingredients are paired perfectly, with a great variety of dishes to suit all tastes. We especially loved the fact that there was a selection of small and large plates, which was perfect for sharing, so that we could try more dishes.
The drinks selection is also fantastic, with plenty of unique cocktails, and all of the classics. You can choose to sit either inside, where there is ample seating for groups, or al fresco, which gives you a taste of the laid back atmosphere of Cronulla. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and our host personally greeted every table and took really good care of everyone, which was great to see.
Henry’s was well worth the drive down – we were absolutely blown away by every dish we tried! So much care and thought has gone into crafting each of the dishes on offer, and the seasonal variations are a great touch. Make sure you ask after the specials, because the lamb was sensational, and don’t go past the dessert!
