For a Zomato meetup, we were invited to dinner at Yayoi Garden, a high-class Japanese restaurant near Circular Quay. Being keen fans of Japanese cuisine, we were very excited to see what would be on offer, and we were not disappointed!
Our first dish was the Zensai Niten Mori, which consists of a boil seasoned bamboo shoot and roast duck, garnished with seasonal dried fruit. It would be fair to say that this was an unexpected way to begin the meal, but it was quite delicious and turned out to be a great way to set the tone for a food adventure that would prove to be exciting and delicious.
Our second course was the Gindara Saikyo-yaki, which is black cod marinated in Kyoto-style miso paste, wrapped in cederwood and grilled. This was amazing! The cod was cooked to perfection, and was full of flavour which stayed in your mouth, making you want so much more. We would highly recommend ordering this.
Continuing with the trend of delicious fish, next we had the Yayoi Temari Sushi. This is a Kyoto-style sushi platter with various types of sushi, including salmon, prawn, kingfish, scampi, scallop, snapper, yellow tail, and wagyu tataki. Temari sushi is basically a ‘ball’ sushi, and it is very easy to eat. Each of these were quite delicious (and cute), and we particularly enjoyed the salmon and the kingfish.
Finally, to round out the main course, was the Premium Wagyu Teppan steak. We were able to cook this at the table by ourselves, and it was one of the tender meat cuts we have ever had. Everyone was quite impressed by it, and it was simply stunning.
For dessert, we had the Seasonal Icecream, which was just delicious and the perfect way to complete the evening. It was a combination of creamy matcha icecream, red bean topping and gummy mochi balls – so good!
The interior of Yayoi Garden was simply beautiful. We were seated on a long wooden table, which was complemented nicely by fresh flowers. The service was incredibly friendly and attentive, and the entire impression we received was one of hospitality. To match the quality of the food was also lovely plating and food design, and everything was presented in a unique yet authentic fashion.
Yayoi Garden was truly an experience, and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable night out. The staff were lovely, the restaurant is beautiful, and the food is simply incredible. We would go so far as to say that it is the best Japanese food we have ever had, and we are looking forward to coming back for more.
