Big Daddy’s Burger Bar brings American Diner charm to the Newtown food scene, so we went down to try some of their famous burgers and shakes!
We started off with a cookies and cream shake, which was sweet and creamy, but so more-ish, and was quickly finished off! For our burger selection, we opted for the Who’s Ur Daddy Burger, which was a 2 patty double topped with a mini American flag. The juicy bacon and fresh lettuce and tomato blended nicely with the creamy mayo, and the soft brioche bun topped off this flavour sensation. The accompanying curly fries were also crispy and well seasoned, with a great crunch to them.
However, I was most excited to try the chicken and waffles, which was a large piece of crispy crumbed chicken served with bacon waffles and sweet maple syrup. While it was a messy meal, the taste was incredible – a great combination of sweet and savoury, and the perfect ratio of waffles to chicken, with a generous portion size overall. This was an absolute highlight, and I loved experiencing such an iconic dish!
The diner has ample booth style seating which is perfect for small groups. We especially liked the decor, with classic metal posters displaying American culture at its finest, and the red and white lighting adding to that feel. Orders are placed at the counter, and delivered to your table. The staff are really friendly and efficient, and we received the food super fast – perfect for a quick lunch!
The rise of the burger in Sydney has been iconic, and Big Daddy’s has lots to contribute with its great selection. However, you can’t miss out on the chicken and waffles – it’s a delicious dish. Washed down with one of their classic shakes, it’s the perfect meal!
