For a friendly café with amazing dishes to offer, head straight to Café on Johnston. With some assistance from our host Suzanne, we decided to try the Organic Quinoa Porridge, the Mix Skewer Plate, the Shakshuka and a new special – the Cauliflower salad. The quinoa porridge was made with almond milk, giving it a light and fluffy texture that was very moreish – it was hard to stop eating! The topping of caramelised banana and chia seeds added some healthy elements to the dish, and the sides of honey and berry compote gave it a delicious sweetness.
For the shakshuka, we went with the medium spice option and added the house smoked chorizo for an extra kick. The tomato and capsicum sauce was truly a taste sensation, eaten with the crunchy and soft lebanese bread and house made hummus. We then tried the cauliflower salad, which turned out to be light and refreshing with the tahini sauce. Pickled radish gave it a bit of tartness as well, which we loved! Finally, the mix skewer plate of lamb, chicken and kafta skewers is great for meat lovers, and was complemented by sides of tabbouli, hummus and babaganoush.
Overall, this is a café that offers something for everyone, from good coffee to vegetarian and vegan food and a great atmosphere to enjoy breakfast, brunch or lunch, so head on down and give Cafe on Johnston a try!
