On a nice sunny Sunday, we decided to check out Cava Café in the Rocks! After a short walk from Wynyard, we were ready for some great brunch, and the the fare on offer did not disappoint. While our feast was being prepared, we started with a coffee and chai latte. The coffee was strong without being overpowering and the chai was spot on – nice and milky with a great spice blend.

To eat, our hosts were very generous in giving us a wide range of their best dishes to try! While Cava is generally known for their amazing breakfasts, they also have a really great brunch and lunch menu on offer. We started with the East-meets-West fusion tea roasted pulled pork with Asian slaw served on toasted crusty bread. The pork was so tender and sweet, owing to a splash of marmalade, and packed full of flavour. This was followed by the smoked salmon bagel, which really has to be tried to be believed. The mixed seed bagel was so light and fluffy, which was surprising for a bagel, but complemented the smoked salmon, cream cheese, pickles and dill perfectly!

For something a bit different, we tried the Polish Sausage Pizza with salad, which comes in a lunch special option for $12.50 with a glass of beer. They also do a pasta special with a glass of wine for $13.50, so head on over at a lunchtime and check that out! Next was the lemon pepper roast chicken salad. This is another great tasty and healthy brunch or lunch dish with a good mix of chicken, avocado, cucumber, tomato and salad leaves. The chicken was bursting with so much flavour and was really well seasoned, and we kept going back to it – so more-ish!

The breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, cheese, mixed leaf greens combined with a good mix of aioli alone would definitely be worth a pre-work pit stop in the morning. Finally, you haven’t tasted a good mango smoothie until you try it at Cava Café! The taste of mouth-watering mango hearts blended with coconut water and a splash of yoghurt brought back memories of eating fresh mango in summer.

The owners, our hosts for the day, were so welcoming and friendly! Their passion for their cafe, which is truly a little oasis of good food and vibes in that end of town, really shines through in their dishes. This is the café you go to for good coffee, breakfast, brunch, lunch and a drink. They even have all of your catering needs covered, as they do cater for offices and residents around the area. For a quick and affordable lunch, you can’t go past the pizza and beer or pasta and wine!
